South Cliff - literally around the corner from the seafront, but quieter

We're on South Cliff - but you're not on the Esplanade with all the noise and crowds. South Cliff is the quieter side and means you're close to everything, including local amenities, but away from the busiest tourist areas. 

The peaceful garden of St Martin’s Square is right on our doorstep, ideal for a stroll with your dog, and you can reach the seafront in minutes via the stunning Italian Gardens. Perfect if you want to relax. The beach, the harbour, and the town centre are all within easy reach.

    Yes. Your first dog stays completely free. If you are looking for dog-friendly accommodation in Scarborough, we make travelling with dogs easy and welcoming. While many places charge a fee per dog per night, we do not charge for your first dog. We accept two dogs per room, with a fee that applies to the second dog per night. We are set up for guests travelling with dogs, so it is never an afterthought. Please see our Pet Policy here

  • What is included in room-only accommodation?

    Our rooms offer the comfort and quality guests want from budget luxury room-only accommodation in Scarborough, with a choice of room types and everything you need for an easy stay. Each room includes an ensuite bathroom, a flat-screen TV, free WIFI, tea- and coffee-making facilities, a hairdryer, linen and towels, and complimentary toiletries, while some rooms also have a fridge. Without the added cost of a restaurant, bar, or paid breakfast, you have more freedom to spend your time and money exactly as you choose.

  • Is it suitable for a longer stay?

    Absolutely. We regularly welcome guests staying for longer periods, including those looking for contractors’ accommodation in Scarborough, as well as people between house purchases or staying locally during renovation work. Monthly rates are available, and longer-stay guests can also make use of a kitchenette and laundry facilities for added convenience. Because it’s room-only, you get a comfortable and peaceful place to stay without paying for hotel facilities you may not need over a longer period.

  • How far is it from the beach?

    Literally around the corner. You can reach the seafront in about five minutes via the Italian Gardens. We're on South Cliff, which is the quieter side — you get easy beach access without being in the middle of the busiest tourist area.


  • What's the parking situation?

    There are no parking facilities on the premises, but the streets in the vicinity of Carlton House Guesthouse offer on-street parking with two options:

    Option 1: Free Parking Disk available in the room, providing 3 hours of parking between 9 am and 5 pm. After 5 pm, the parking is free overnight.

    Option 2: If you are not using your car during your stay, you can purchase a Parking Permit from us for either 2 or 4 days. You can order the Parking Permit at the time of booking, and it will be in your room upon arrival.
